Week 6 Assignment: Final Project

For my final project, I decided to make a project in conjunction with my final project in another course, Handheld: Creative Tools for Phones. Originally I was planning to create a simple visual poetry tool using a string of words for my Handheld final project, but decided that I could combine my final projects to create a visual poetry drawing tool that used an API for the text input of the tool. Although I would have liked to utilize an API for this assignment, within the time frame learning to deal with APIs was more difficult than expected, so I decided to create an array of text strings instead to create a similar effect. Although the input options are not as extensive as I would have wanted it to be, I think that I was able to achieve the effect that I was originally planning for. I made two versions of the site- one that has an array of haikus that the user can browse through and choose, and another version that uses titles of clickbait Youtube videos. I think that the two versions achieve vastly different effects just by having extremely contradicting text inputs and both forms of writing can be turned into visual poetry using this tool. As my original intent for this assignment was to create a tool that introduced visual poetry as an easy form of visual and linguistic art form to anyone, I am happy with the way my project turned out. I opted for minimal interface design besides necessary controls that could change the typeface, background color, font size, etc, to give the user as much space and control as possible to explore their creativity using this medium. If I were to further develop this project, I would like to try working with an API to make the project more localized and maybe add some extended pages off of the drawing tool that can be more informational and engaging in different ways besides the drawing tool. I would also like to try to incorporate different typefaces for each version to further convey a stark difference between the two versions.
